Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the Rink Reels app on iPad, Mac and Windows, and of the clips and links you share from it. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What Rink Reels is

Rink Reels is a video breakdown tool for hockey coaches. It plays video you already have, lets you tag moments, draw on the picture, record walkthroughs, and export clips. The breakdown happens on your own device, with your own footage. Two things do leave it — a clip you choose to share, and a roster you attach to a team — and sections 4 and 5 say exactly what.

2. Your account

Rink Reels asks you to sign in before you use it. Your account is what your plan, your teams and the links you send belong to.

  • Sign in with an email address you can actually receive mail at. It is how you sign in, how you get a code back in if you forget your password, and how we reach you about your subscription.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for everything done under your account, including every clip shared from it. Do not share a sign-in with other people.
  • Email support@rinkreels.com if you think someone else has got into your account.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — see section 7.

You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account. Clip files you have already uploaded are covered separately in section 4.

3. Your footage is yours

You keep all rights to the video you open, the clips you export or share, and the notes and drawings you create. We claim no ownership over any of it.

The game tape never leaves your device. Rink Reels reads the file you choose and plays it; the whole game is never uploaded, copied or transmitted to us. Your tags, your drawings and your walkthrough recordings are likewise stored on the device that made them.

A clip you choose to share is the exception. Sharing cuts a short clip out of the tape and uploads that clip to our storage so the people you send the link to can watch it. Nothing is uploaded until you ask for it. Section 4 covers what that means, and our Privacy Policy covers what we hold.

You are responsible for having the right to use the footage you break down — including any permission your league, association, or club requires for recording games and for identifying players.

4. Sharing a clip

When you share, the app uploads the clip you picked to our storage and gives you a link to it.

  • What goes up is the clip, not the game — the short cut you chose, along with its title and any message you write for the family. If you share a walkthrough, that clip also carries your voice, and your camera picture if you had the camera turned on.
  • You must have the right to upload and share it, and the right to share footage of the players in it. Section 5 covers the people in your roster.
  • Anyone who has the link can watch the clip. A link is a long random address, not a password. There is no sign-in on it, so it works for whoever it is forwarded to.
  • Anyone who can watch a clip can save a copy of it. That is true of any video that can be played, and we cannot prevent it. Treat sending a link the way you would treat sending the video file itself, and only send it to people the families have agreed to.
  • Links expire. A new link lasts 30 days unless you choose otherwise when you create it, and you can revoke one at any time from the app.

An uploaded clip is deleted automatically 90 days after you upload it, and our record of it goes with it. You do not have to do anything.

Revoking a link is not the same as deleting the clip. Revoking stops the link opening, straight away — but the file stays in storage until its own 90 days are up. The same is true when a link simply expires. Deleting the app does not remove an uploaded clip either. To have one deleted sooner, email support@rinkreels.com and we will delete it.

5. Rosters, players and other people's details

A roster attached to a team is uploaded to our servers — each player's name, jersey number, position, line and pairing, and any email address you enter for them, including a parent's. It goes up so the roster follows you between your devices, so other coaches on that team can see it, and so a clip can be sent to a family by name. A roster you keep on the device with no team stays on the device. Note that sharing a clip creates a team to own it, so if you have ever shared, assume your roster has been uploaded.

These are other people's details, and most of them belong to children. You are responsible for being entitled to enter and share them.

  • Only enter a child's name and details if your league, association, or club allows it and any consent they require has been given.
  • Only enter a parent's email address if that parent has agreed to be contacted at it about your team's video, and only send clips to people the families have agreed to.
  • Follow your league's, association's, or club's own rules on recording, identifying and photographing young players. Where the law where you are requires a parent's consent, obtaining it is your responsibility, not ours.
  • Remove a player's details by deleting the player from the roster, or deleting the team. For anything else, email support@rinkreels.com.

We use this information only to run the features described above. We do not sell it, we do not advertise with it, and we do not build a profile from it.

Rink Reels is sold to adult coaches and is not directed at children.

6. Plans and billing

Rink Reels has a free tier ("Primer") and a paid subscription ("Pro").

Primer includes playback, tagging, marking, unlimited single-clip exports at 720p, and three walkthrough recordings on the device.

Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. The price and billing period are shown on the purchase screen before you buy, in your local currency. It renews automatically until you cancel, and deleting the app does not cancel it.

Where you buy decides who bills you, and the app tells you which one you are on. Whichever way you buy, the subscription belongs to the account you were signed in as at the time.

Bought on iPad, through the App Store

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price shown.
  • Manage or cancel in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms, not by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Bought on Mac or Windows, through rinkreels.com

  • The purchase goes through Stripe Checkout, and we bill you, not Apple. Stripe takes the payment at confirmation of purchase and handles your card details; we never see or hold them. What Stripe receives, and the one identifier we keep afterwards, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
  • Sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout, calculated from the address you give Stripe. Where it applies, the total you are charged is higher than the price on the purchase screen, and Stripe shows you that total before you confirm.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the price shown until you cancel.
  • Manage or cancel from Settings → Plan in the app, which opens your billing page. You can cancel at any time, and it stays active to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by us. Email support@rinkreels.com. Apple cannot help with these, because the purchase was never made through them.

Any unused portion of a free trial, where one is offered, is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

A Team plan — a licence covering a whole coaching staff — is not offered for purchase in every build. Where the app shows it without a way to buy it, it is shown for information and is not available at this time. Where it is offered for sale, its price and billing period are shown before you buy and everything above about renewal, cancellation and refunds applies to it.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's models or source,
  • resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or a paid entitlement,
  • use the app to store or share material you do not have the right to use, or that is unlawful,
  • upload or share footage of anyone you do not have the right to record, identify, or share — see sections 4 and 5,
  • share a clip in a way that harasses, bullies, or endangers anyone in it, or send a link on to people the families have not agreed to,
  • attempt to circumvent the paid tiers.

We may end your access, close your account, or take down an uploaded clip and its links if you do these things.

8. Availability and changes

Rink Reels is under active development. Features may change, and we may add, alter, or remove them. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid subscription includes, we will tell you before it takes effect.

We do not guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.

9. No warranty

The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. In particular, we do not warrant that automatic stoppage detection, or any other automated feature, will be accurate. They are aids to a coach's judgement, not a substitute for it — always check the result.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim.

We are not liable for lost footage, lost clips, or lost work. Your work lives on your device, so please keep your own backups. A clip you have uploaded to share is a copy we hold so other people can watch it — it is not a backup, and you should not rely on it as one.

Settings → Download a backup exports your tags, notes and game info. Be aware that it does not include drawings or walkthrough recordings — there is currently no way to export those, so they exist only on the device that made them. Losing or resetting that device loses them.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Apple

If you use Rink Reels on an Apple device, you acknowledge that:

  • these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content;
  • Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app;
  • Apple is not responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims;
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will make it clear in the app before it applies.
